Republican Senator Calls Our TRUE State Flag a Step Backward
By Janet L. Conley
Fulton County Daily Report

Sen. C. Saxby Chabliss, the state's second-highest ranking Republican, leaves no doubt about where he stands on the controversial 1956 Georgia flag.

"I think it's pretty clear" that returning to the 1956 state flag with the Confederate battle cross would be a step backward for Georgia, he said when asked.

"I have been very outspoken about the fact that I think that the issue should have been put to bed before now. I encouraged the governor to take action on it immediately get it done and get it over with. This is an issue that is putting pockets of Georgians in different corners. [T]his is not good for Georgia, and it needs to be resolved." He said.

When asked by the Daily Report if Sen. Chambliss thought the Battle Cross was a step backward, he replied, "I think it's pretty clear it is."
