FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Georgia grass roots heritage activists are using their
momentum from the King Roy Barnes and Tom Murphy defeats to move into stage
two of their reform program for Georgia politics. Both parties and
mainstream political analysts have consistently underestimated the voting
strength and sophistication of this movement.
The group includes descendants of veterans of the
Revolution, the War Between the States from both sides whose veterans are
jointly recognized as American veterans, along with other veteran groups
jointly supporting fellow veteran organizations, Native Americans and
Conservative Black Americans.
An estimated three and a half million Georgians are in
some way identified with the coalition. A
majority are voter eligible and
a large percentage
vote regularly. The coalition expects to
increase the voter turnout by both public education and voter registration
efforts.
The second stage campaign is
designed to contact a list of about 35 legislators in both houses
and parties who
have a record of anti-heritage votes. The legislators will be asked to
support certain reform measures in the 2004 General Assembly. It is the
intention of the coalition to oppose the re-election of those who fail to
cooperate.
Among the issues listed by the coalition are:
- Strict enforcement of existing illegal immigration
laws by state agencies. Strict limitation of benefits for illegal aliens
including no driver permits or preferential education benefits;
- Improved representation on state boards, commissions
and authorities for citizens with heritage interests;
- Recession of the March flag referendum as an
unnecessary expense to the taxpayers;
- Inclusion of the 1956 Georgia flag in a referendum
scheduled for July 2004;
- Opposition to the "ethnic cleansing"
of America's religious heritage and the key role it played in building the
foundations of our Republic.
Commenting on the flag issue, Jeff Davis, of
Gainesville, a coalition member said, "the State flag issue in Georgia will
not be over until the people have been given the right to vote on whether to
keep the 1956 State flag or choose another. Any legislator who refuses to
give the People this freedom, the freedom of choice, should be thoroughly
exposed to the voters of his or her district for robbing them of their right
to vote and we intend to do that."
Jim Dean, of Cobb County, Producer-Host of Heritage TV
and a coalition member has said, "some national heritage foundations which
will be announced later will be participating with the coalition." Dean also
has announced "several nationally known black leaders will campaign with the
coalition at locations and dates to be announced."
The coalition is actively designating targeted anti-heritage candidates and organizing coalition volunteers in the selected
areas. Heritage Activism Seminars are scheduled during the Fall in
practically all areas of the state. These seminars train local
volunteers in such skills as position interviews with candidates, selecting
opposition candidates, grass roots voter motivation, voter registration,
absentee ballots, scrutiny at election time, flagging anti-heritage
candidates and training other issue groups on
how to protest publicly to get their message across. The course also includes training in media relations and talk
show education. Flags in use will include the 56 Georgia flag, the Betsy
Ross flag, Don't Tread on Me flag and the Cherokee Braves flag.
Says Mike Crane, of
Morganton in Fannin County, "The old days of issue groups not being able to
get their message out unless they had huge TV, phone banks or mailing budgets
is over. We can show groups how to do this for pennies on the dollar."
Training will also include explanation of House Bill
899 which calls for elimination from Georgia property of all symbols of any
nation which engaged in war with the United States.
This outreach program will educate Georgians
that these attacks are all part of a long range, politically correct program
to rip traditional American heritage out by its roots, one piece at a time,
and replace it with whatever the new 'flavor of the day' is. "Those
who voted to engross this bill will be properly identified to their
constituents and go onto the anti-heritage list we are developing for
statewide distribution," according to Jim Dean of the coalition.
Heritage Activism seminars are conducted by a non
partisan group of Georgia veterans of politics including a former state
Republican campaign chairman, a former Democrat campaign leader, a Southern
Party officer and the leaders of the Flaggers.
