ARE THE CURRENT LEADERS OF THE GEORGIA BAPTIST CONVENTION ADHERING TO BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES?
McDonough, Georgia 28 April 2001
RESOLUTIONcondemning the actions of the current leadership of the Georgia Baptist Convention Approved WHEREAS, The True Flag of the State of Georgia, with its prominent Confederate Battle emblem, having been adopted in 1956 to honour the values of sacrifice, duty and other Christian ideals for which Southern Patriots of many diverse races and cultural backgrounds gave their blood, treasure and sacred honour during the War for Southern Independence (erroneously, however popularly, referred to as the “Civil War”); and,
WHEREAS, The current leadership of the Georgia Baptist Convention has publicly announced support for changing said Flag, including sending a letter of their position urging members of the Georgia State Senate to vote for said change; and,
WHEREAS, The current leadership of the Georgia Baptist Convention has endorsed the new flag design, which for all intents and purposes minimizes the Saint Andrew’s Cross to a size and position of invisibility; and,
WHEREAS, The people of Georgia had little or no say in the changing of their beloved Flag; and,
WHEREAS, This new flag design, which from its vile inception in a secret meeting in California between Roy Barnes, Governor of Georgia and operatives of the NAACP has been a sordid saga involving deliberate lies, deceit, treachery and extortion against the good people of the State of Georgia, and came about primarily because of the threat of economic boycott; and,
WHEREAS, The Christian Citizens of the State of Georgia have traditionally looked to the leadership of the Georgia Baptist Convention, as spiritual leaders, to guide them and support Christian Values and Principles; and,
WHEREAS, The Georgia Baptist Convention has its ideological roots in Southern culture, and in fact owes its very existence to the wisdom of their Southern forebears, many of whom gave their lives defending the Southern Confederacy against a foe that history has clearly shown acted unconstitutionally, dishonourably; and in many cases contrary to Scripture in denying the Southern people their right to self-determination; and,
WHEREAS, The current leadership of the Georgia Baptist Convention has never explained what Christian Values or Principles were violated in the government or society honoured by the 1956 flag, thus necessitating a change; and,
WHEREAS, The evidence of timing and content of the endorsement letter strongly suggest that the leadership of the Georgia Baptist Convention had knowledge of the Governor’s covert actions prior to his public announcement, and, if not true, has subsequently failed to explain how a consensus could be reached among the current leadership and five former presidents, and then delivered to every member of the State Senate within five days, in direct opposition to the wishes of the majority of the Georgia Baptist Congregation; and,
WHEREAS, The current leadership of the Georgia Baptist Convention has not only failed to rebuke the Governor’s actions against the good people of the State of Georgia but has been a willing participant in these misdeeds, and has therefore violated the principles set forth in Scripture; and,
WHEREAS, As a sign of the depths to which the leadership of the Georgia Baptist Convention has descended, has, in true Idumean fashion, allowed the flag of the United States to fly in a position of superiority over the Christian Flag, or allowed the U.S. flag to be arrogantly displayed in God’s sanctuary, or both, thus implying, in deed if not in word, that our freedoms come not from The Almighty God but from the federal government;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Athens Area chapter of the Georgia League of the South, together with the Southern Party of Georgia, condemns and rebukes the actions of the current leadership of the Georgia Baptist Convention, and subsequently calls upon the Christian Members of the Georgia Baptist Convention to hold their current leadership accountable for their actions, and call for their immediate resignation, or forced dismissal if so required.
(Note: The Georgia Baptist Convention received their 30 pieces of silver in the form of a late night budget deal on 19 March 2001. At the Governor’s urging, the Medical School of (Georgia Baptist’s) Mercer University was awarded a $7.7 million allocation from the State Treasury.)
