Georgia Supreme Court
Non-partisan election held July 20.
Grant Brantley. Non partisan
election. It’s rare voters
get to vote on State Supreme Court justices. When a member dies or
retires, the Governor appoints his successor, and typically no
candidate ever runs against a sitting justice. The Georgia Supreme
Court has taken a turn to the liberal in recent years, and Leah
Sears-Collins, the incumbent, is one of the liberal quartet which
stuck down the sodomy statute a few years back, sided with the
Attorney General against Governor Perdue in an instance the Governor
clearly had authority, and this year voided the sentence of a high
school athlete with a history of sexual misbehavior who had been
convicted of a felony for having sex at school with a fifteen year
old girl. The court made a political decision with racial overtones
instead of ruling on the legal merits of the case. Like other
states, same sex marriage looms as an issue the court might take up
in the near future. Challenger Brantley gives every indication of
making a better supreme court justice than Leah Sears-Collins has
been. He promises to end the liberal bias of the Georgia Supreme
Court.
U.S. Senate.
Mac Collins, Republican
Primary. Congressman
Collins has fought free trade deals since he went to Congress. Both
as a legislator and since, he opposed changing the state flag. He
supports the marriage amendment, too. More than any other candidate
in the race, he supports what the Georgia Heritage Council stands
for.

6th Congressional District.
Robert LaMutt, Republican
Primary. LaMutt is
presently in the Georgia State Senate, where he has stood up for our
heritage and flag. His opponents include Chuck Clay and Tom Price,
both State Senators who oppose our heritage. Chuck Clay is a “Roy
Barnes” Republican.
Georgia State Senate
Senate District 3
Jeff Chapman, Republican
Primary. Our
recommendation is based on his website.
Senate District 6
Bill Adams, Republican Primary.
Based on email contact and the fact he is opposing Ginger Collins.
Senate District 13
Carden H. Summers, Republican
Primary.
More about Summers
Senate District 24
Joey Brush, Republican Primary.
Friend of the flag since day one. Opposed by anti-heritage
Republican.
Senate District 29
Julian A. Mack, Republican
Primary. The only
republican of the three running who has not voted for both the Roy
Barnes and Sonny Perdue Big Lie flags. His Republican opponents are
Danny Lee and Seth Harp.
Senate District 31
James Garner, Republican
Primary. Mr. Garner is a
long-time friend of Southern Heritage and almost won this seat two
years ago.
Senate District 32
Judson Hill, Republican
Primary.
Senate District 37
Andy Rice, Republican Primary.
Senator, District 50
Nancy Shaefer, Republican
Primary.
House of Representatives
House District 36
Taffy Rice, Republican Primary.
House District 38.
Steve “Thunder” Tumlin,
Republican Primary. Based
on info from websites only. Mr. Tumlin is a very substantial citizen
of Marietta, with an impressive background of accomplishment. Like
Roy Barnes, Tumlin’s Republican opponent Ceminsky claims to be a
fiscal and tax conservative, but he proclaims himself a member of
the Cobb County NAACP, a graduate of late Senator Coverdell’s
liberal leadership institute, and proponent of “inclusiveness”,
another word for multicultural diversity.
House District 43.
Tom Boeck, Republican Primary.
Mr. Boeck is running against Bobby Franklin, and that is reason
enough to be for him. Mr. Franklin played a very big and public role
in preventing the 1956 Georgia flag from being part of the flag
referendum. In addition, this former head of an SCV camp publicly
called the confederate battle flag a racist symbol of hate.
House District 68
Timothy J. Bearden, Republican
Primary. Since Mr. Bearden
has the support of our fellow heritage community, and he has
promised to introduce a bill to give us a chance to vote for the
1956 flag, we have little choice in endorsing him. Neither George
Pope nor Brian Hager show any interest in Southern Heritage nor our
other issues...and Hager is an opportunist liberal who should be
running as a Democrat in Midtown Atlanta.
House District 69.
Wayne Seabolt, Republican
Primary. Jeff Brown, the
incumbent Republican, has supported the flag in past votes, but has
not answered our email nor mentioned the flag this year or any other
issue we are promoting, so far as we can tell. Seabolt, on the other
hand, is making some of
our issues the basis of his campaign. If he is elected and
follows through, Seabolt will be no friend to the downtown Atlanta
Establishment.
House District 95
Robert Mumford, Republican
Primary.
House District 153
Michael Spinks, Republican
Primary. His opponent is
Austin Scott, one of the most gung-ho Republican flag changers in
the legislature. Austin Scott joined with Tyrone Brooks years ago to
change the flag. A vote against Scott is a vote to send Republicans
a message on the flag.
